To check the preferences for a specific document, open that document. To check the QuarkXPress default preferences, make sure no documents are open. 2. Double-click on the Preference Checker script. The Applet creates a two-column QuarkXPress document, then imports and formats the preferences. Some preferences are not accessible through Apple Events scripting and, therefore, are not reported. These include: Drag and Drop Text, Speed Scroll, Standard em space, Not ffi or ffl, Accents for All Caps, Superior HScale and VScale, and Trapping Preferences.   Close all documents and run the script to generate a report of your QuarkXPress default preferences. If the Missing/Modified Pictures alert appears while the script is running, the script allows you to update the pictures before it continues. The EPS files are named with the document name and the page number, for example, “Demo Document-Page1” and “Demo Document-Page2.”   Select the “Demo Document” and drop it on the Droplet. Remember where you save the EPS files on your hard drive so you can delete them later. Set Default Page View This Applet allows you to specify the default page view for all new documents. 1. If you click Save New, an Open dialog box asks you to “Select a destination folder for new documents.” Locate the folder you want, and click the Choose (folder name) button at the bottom of the dialog box. Whether you click Update or Save New, the script opens each document in the current version of QuarkXPress, makes a change to the document so the Save command is available, and saves the document. (To activate the Save command, the script creates and deletes a small text box on the first page of each document.)   If you have QuarkXPress documents in previous versions on your hard drive, select them and drop them on the script.
